Day two. What technology am I thankful for? For many reasons, I am thankful for cell phones. I am thankful for it to keep in touch with distant friends, to keep in touch with Cody while he is gone throughout the summer, and to call my family when I need to hear their voices throughout the day. I am thankful that it holds apps such as Podcasts so that I can listen to faithful talks to get me through my runs in the mornings and afternoons.
I just got in from my afternoon run and listening to Super Soul. The talk today was A.R. Bernard’s discussion. He conversed on how if we want people to be a certain “way”, we must be that way first. In order for others to be who we want them to be, we must model it for them. I took this into account of almost every aspect around me. If I want others to listen to me, I need to listen to them first. If I want others to respect me, I need to respect them first. I can’t do everything today, but I can take one small step — by modeling to others how I want them to be.
Every success is based on action. That’s why every worthwhile accomplishment starts with a change in perspective, or a new connection, or a renewed sense of purpose and motivation.
Today, I am thankful for technology that helps to boost my perspective and motivation each day. Tomorrow, I will take one small step in the direction of acting to others as I want them to act within this world.
Day three. What color are you grateful for? This one made me ponder a bit, but I love that it is challenging me to stretch my mind. A color is such a simplistic thing that we do not express our gratitude for. Today, as I am sitting outside watching my dog roll around in the grass and I am stretched out underneath the pergola basking in the sunshine, I am thankful for the color yellow.
I used to not like this color. I used to think that it was too bright and too much. Today, however, I am thankful for it. It reminds me of the sun that I feel on my body and it reminds me of the happiness that it is giving me at this moment. It reminds me to be grateful for all of the little things that I have been taking for granted . . . like being able to sit outside and enjoy the sun beaming down on me.
I was in such a rush to get home today. I stayed an hour later after school than I normally do and I was rushing home to eat dinner and relax. Now, as I am relaxing, I am reminded to slow my world down. My busy, fast-paced world, needs to be reminded to slow down at all times. I am so worried about moving on to my next task, my next meeting, my next day that will get me closer to my next weekend. Slow down, Kodi. Slow down.
Today, I am thankful for the color yellow because it reminds me of the sun that is beaming down on me reminding me to slow my world down. Enjoy the present time and remember that time does not slow down for anybody.
